August 2018 Librarian’s Report Bradford Public Library


The SCOOP purchasing consortium contract ended on July 30. We are now contracted through the ​MHEC (Massachusetts Higher Education Consortium). Through this p​urchasing consortium we are able to purchase books, media, furniture, supplies, technology, and other business services at a discounted price. The contract states that many discounts are extended to staff , faculty and family members and might include cellular services…check out w​

Updates are being made to the library website at Retired art teacher Candace Miller and her husband have recently purchased a home and moved to Bradford. Candace is volunteering her time & skill to help with WordPress! I am grateful for her eye and experience in graphic design.

Professional Development

Gail has completed EDLI 277 UVM course Library Media.
Although this course is designed for professional school librarian licensing, it has given me new knowledge and skills for the many tools available and useful at BPL.

Summer Reading Program News

Tuesday program events have concluded for this year with awesome attendance! CLiF Summer Readers ~ Author & book giveaway​ ~ close to 80 children and adults VINS Screech & Hoot ​~ we stopped counting at 216 !!
Hampstead Theatre/American Folktales​ ~ 75 children and adults

**The VINS and Theatre programs were cosponsored by BPL and the Bradford Parks & Rec

Food service program has provided and fed 45 lunches each week in the children’s room


Summer Readers Drawing August 14

Young patrons have been entering their name in the Summer Readers Drawing each time they come to the library throughout the summer for a chance to win a $25 book shopping spree!

Lyme Support group

Preschool Story Hour ​- Fridays, 10 AM

Bradford Young Makers Club​ for children ages 10+ continue to meet Thursday evenings, 6-8 pm. through 8/ 13. For this years’ theme of ​Libraries Rock! ​we have been building musical instruments. Thank you adult volunteers Jean Carlan, Arvid Johnson, and Monique Priestly.


We can expect activity in the children’s room to slow with the start of the 2018-19 school year on Wednesday, August 29. Gail, Holly and Kathy are gearing up for more adult programming through winter months. If you have an interest you would like us to pursue, please let us know!
